Salary: $26/hour
Hours: 40 hrs/week (1.0 FTE), flexible schedule, mostly daytime hours, occasional evening or weekend hours
Location: Call Auntie Clinic at SGMT - 525 Dundas St E, occasional work from home, community events around the GTA
Contract: 12 weeks
Background:
Call Auntie is an urban Indigenous-led not-for-profit organization strengthening the health and wellbeing of the Toronto Indigenous Community by providing low barrier access to culturally safe health care, information, and referrals, to Indigenous Community Health Workers, Midwives, Doctors and Nurse Practitioners. With a strong focus on sexual and reproductive health, and wrap-around support, Call Auntie draws upon Indigenous extended kinship systems of support to promote self-determination and fiercely advocate for family integrity throughout all our programs.
The active partnerships that Call Auntie maintains provides us with clinical service providers, supplies, referral pathways, space, and everything that makes what we do possible! This includes but not limited to; Seventh Generation Midwives Toronto, Toronto Birth Centre, Positive Pregnancy Program (P3), Inner City Health Associates Indigenous Program, Auduzhe Mino Nesewinong.
Role Description and Responsibilities:
The Outreach & Resource Summer Student will do outreach on behalf of Call Auntie and our collaborative partners, including SGMT, at pow wows, community gatherings, and local events. This includes practical duties such as organizing outreach materials, transportation, set up, and tabling at events, being able to effectively represent and communicate Call Auntie core values, activities and services, including sexual and reproductive health education and promotion. In addition to outreach activities you will assist with preparing for Generations Group, and Call Auntie clinic including being in office on Wednesdays to provide support on clinic days. Finally, you will assist with information gathering regarding community and clinical resources.
Coordinate set up, tabling, and take down at all community events. You will be responsible for tracking stats and reporting back on outreach activities.
Work in collaboration with other organizations, team members, and possibly volunteers.
Learn hands-on about Call Auntie. This includes supporting in person on programming days, assisting in administrative tasks, attending team meetings and other duties as assigned.
Gather information and resources by various means to support the general running of the clinic and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Training or Post Secondary education in associated field an asset (Social Work, Marketing, Health Promotion, etc) but not required
Experience working with Indigenous people, including gender-diverse Indigenous community members (2SLGBTQIA) and urban relatives
Balance of collaboration and independent work skills including self management, initiative and the ability to set work plans with minimal supervision or oversight
Strong problem-solving skills and demonstrated resourcefulness and initiative
Demonstrates Indigenous cultural competency in daily interactions
Skills/knowledge in creating and maintaining a culturally safe space for Indigenous and all prioritized community families
Demonstrated professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment
Ability and willingness to travel around the city
Administrative skills - filing, updating spreadsheet
Social media skills would be an asset including knowledge of canva, social media posting, etc.
Willing to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check
